About the Open Call
Cambodian Living Arts started the Season of Cambodia festival to celebrate the resurgence of Cambodian arts and culture. The festival began in New York City in 2013 and continued in Paris in 2018, featuring diverse cultural programs. As we near 50 years since the fall of Phnom Penh, the festival will be reinitiated in 2025 to commemorate Cambodia’s resilience and vibrant arts. This global event will foster dialogue and cultural activities, strengthening connections within the Cambodian diaspora and celebrating 30 years of dedication to the Cambodian arts scene.
We are opening calls for applications, which will run from August 1st to September 30th, 2024. We aim to select five individuals, groups, or communities of the Cambodian diaspora from around the world. These selected hosts will organize Season of Cambodia 2025 in their respective communities. As part of this initiative by Cambodian Living Arts, we will provide each host with a small grant of $2000 USD to fund their cultural activities. These activities may include workshops, exchanges, meetings, film screenings, literature readings, exhibition tours, panel discussions, etc. All events are scheduled for 2025.
These events will align with the theme “Acts of Memories: Commemorating Cambodia’s Resilience and Cultural Renaissance” to honor the journey of healing and transformation.
All hosts will be invited to participate in online monthly meetings with the Season of Cambodia Curator from November 2024 to January 2025. These meetings will provide an opportunity to get to know each other, discuss the concept, and plan the process.
The Season of Cambodia 2025 under the theme “Acts of Memories” represents a collective effort from the Cambodian diaspora communities around the globe. They aim to present a diverse and comprehensive image of Cambodia to future generations, focusing on the intersection of arts and culture. Your contributions to this effort will help spotlight Cambodia’s resilience, culture, and artistry, celebrating its transformation despite a challenging history.
